The Winter Blahs: Why January , February & A Bit of March Feels So Hard
It’s Not You – It’s the Season
January and February are always a little rough in the fitness world and honestly, it has nothing to do with fitness. I call it the “Winter Blahs.”
This time of year brings two kinds of people into the gym.
The first are the ones who decide, “Enough is enough. I’m starting.” Maybe it’s a New Year’s resolution, a fresh start, or simply the moment they finally put themselves back on the list.
The second are the people who already know what movement does for them. Fitness isn’t just a hobby – it’s how they keep their mental health in check, stay grounded, and feel like themselves.
And here’s the funny part. I actually love winter. I love the cold. I love the snow. What I don’t love is how January and February can sneak up on all of us with a case of the blahs. Not every day or even all winter long, but just enough that it starts showing up in our routines.
That’s usually when we see people a little less – until March rolls around and everything starts to ramp back up again, like the first signs of spring. More daylight. More energy. More consistency. Almost like we all bloom at the same time…
What To Do When You’ve Got the Blahs
If you’re feeling the Winter Blahs right now, you’re not alone – and it doesn’t mean you’re lazy or “falling off.” It means you’re human.
The goal wasn’t perfection in January and February. The goal then and now is to keep showing up in whatever way you can so that you have something to build on when the season shifts.
Even if “showing up” looks like two days instead of four, a walk instead of a workout, or simply getting through the door and letting someone else guide the plan, keep showing up – it adds up.
The Chaka Reminder
If you’ve got the Winter Blahs right now, here’s your Chaka reminder: you don’t need a perfect plan – you just need a starting point. Come in, say hi, and let us coach you through whatever you’ve got that day. Some days you’ll feel strong, and other days you’ll feel “meh” – both are welcome here.
If you can’t do your normal, do your minimum…and we’ll take it from there. The most important part is staying connected to movement, to your people, and to yourself!
