“I moved a 45 lb, fully assembled dog crate from the living room to the bedroom by myself today and THAT DOESN’T HAPPEN WITHOUT CROSSFIT! Thank you. 🙏”
When you spend 24/7 thinking about how to help people get healthier and fitter, and then you get a message like that from a member, it fills your whole day (and honestly, your whole week) with joy. Mission accomplished.
At Chaka CrossFit, we have members, but we often call them athletes – because that is exactly what they are. Our athletes are all ages, all shapes, all sizes, and from all different backgrounds. Some are in perfect health, and some of us, myself and another coach included, deal with health issues of our own.
But we all share one common thing: we show up at Chaka and do the work in whatever variation we need in order to keep moving.
The member who sent me that text is a perfect example of that. She comes in and works hard every time. She does not worry about what anyone else is doing. If the guy beside her is deadlifting 300 pounds while she is deadlifting two 15 lb dumbbells, it does not faze her. She still jokes with the “deadlift guy,” and he jokes right back with her. No egos. Just respect. A simple “You do you, I’ll do me” mentality.
Why does that work?
Because at Chaka, we are all just grateful to be here and grateful to be able to move in whatever capacity we can. That is what makes this place special. It is not about being the strongest person in the room. It is not about looking a certain way or lifting the most weight. It is about showing up, doing your best, supporting the people around you, and becoming more capable in your real life.
And sometimes, that looks like moving a 45 lb dog crate by yourself and realizing just how much stronger you’ve become.
That is why we do what we do.
